Chrono Trigger DS to hit North America this holiday season
Andrew Y. - Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008 | 7:43AM (PT)

One of the greatest games of all time is set to make a return

Continually touted as one of the greatest games of all time, Chrono Trigger will make it's return to gaming this holiday season, in a press release today from RPG powerhouse Square Enix.  The game will make its way onto the Nintendo DS, and will represent the series' first offering on a portable handheld.

Chrono Trigger DS was first revealed when a 2ch poster had posted a scan from Jump Magazine on the popular Japanese message board.  That, combined with the opening of the product's official Japanese page, had shocked and caused the internet to explode in a frenzy of cheers and jubilation.

This DS-exclusive port/remaster will make use of the Nintendo DS's two main features: its two screens and touch screen functionality.  Much of the game's original gameplay will remain in tact, Active Time Battle system, Tech skills, and all.  Additions to Chrono Trigger DS will consist of a brand new dungeon and a Wireless Play feature, with the specifics unknown as of right now.

The original Chrono Trigger has come to be recognized as one of the best games of all time.  The North American official site for the game can be found here.  These sites are expected to update on July 7th.
